Funded by Health Education England, the project has enabled us to gain a deeper insight into the experiences of Black, Asian, Mixed Heritage and Minority Ethnic students undertaking practice placements in Health and Social Care settings. Whilst many students have positive practice placement experiences, a significant proportion of Black, Asian, Mixed Heritage and Minority Ethnic students experience racism, microaggressions and unconscious bias within practice placements. The Bridging the Gap to Leadership placement has five main aims which are: 1. To raise awareness of, and tackle issues of discrimination experienced by Black, Asian, Mixed Heritage and Minority Ethnic students during practice placements 2. To enhance the experiences of Black, Asian, Mixed Heritage and Minority Ethnic students on practice placements 3. To provide leadership development opportunities for Black, Asian, Mixed Heritage and Minority Ethnic students 4. To promote allyship and foster a sense of belonging within practice placements 5. To provide a set of resources for Practice Educators, students and our placement partners to develop their understanding of race, ethnicity and diversity within the learning and working environment The #BridgingtheGaptoLeadership conference will focus on the student voice and how practitioners and placement providers can tackle racial inequality, build a practice learning environment that fosters a sense of belonging and improve the success of all students. We will be showcasing the fantastic work of students at CCCU and UoB through authentic co-creation, that will leave you feeling inspired and equipped to stride for race equity. Who is this conference for? This conference is recommended for everyone that works with students especially individuals that are passionate and/or need guidance on promoting the inclusion of Black, Asian, Mixed Heritage students within practice learning. We encourage anyone and everyone to attend including (e.g. students, academics, practitioners, outreach teams, EDI staff, Heads of Schools/Faculties, health and social care education leads etc)
